RF24-70mm f2.8 L IS USM does not focus reliably with my R5 Mark II

Hi everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced auto focus issues with the RF 24-70 on the R5II?

The lens was tack sharp and hella reliable on my R6s (I & II), but it's totally unreliable since I upgraded to the R5II. I've tried using different focus settings, had it serviced, tried it on multiple bodies and yet it still misses focus in the most mundane situations (but not all the time because that would be too much consistency for this POS).

To add to the confusion, I had the same problems with a rental RF24-70 I used while mine was at CPS. And yes, I've had my cameras and lens checked, cleaned and micro-adjusted multiple times with no improvement.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions (besides switching to Nikon) I would be eternally grateful!

What, exactly, is your test methodology?

I know I'm the bearer of bad news but 90% of all focus issues and OOF images is user caused and not photo gear. In order to correct this issue look there first. Again, I know we all think we are do everything correctly but check and recheck. Very first thing reset the camera.

I would be interested to know what this user could be doing to cause it to back focus on a chain link fence in broad daylight at like f5.6 when shooting a group of stationary people. With all the new autofocus technology it shouldn't be a gamble whether a simple group photo will be in focus. I have better luck with my old EF primes using an adapter.

Maybe test was the wrong word. I've used the lens on both of my R5 MarkIIs (plus a rental body) to photograph full weddings and noticed the unreliable focusing with all of them. I sent the lens in to Canon and used a rental 24-70 for one wedding and had the same problem. I went back through a years worth of wedding gigs and noticed everything I shot after I switched to the R5s had the issue. I am not a technical person, but it seems to me like the camera and lens are not communicating properly in regards to focusing.

Can you please share your AF settings and shot settings?  I assume they are the same on both cameras?   Perhaps you could share a sample or two of the raw images on a separate site (guessing that you use one to provide clients photos)?

How can we suggest anything when you have not shared any information about your camera settings, AF settings, or shared a photo that includes EXIF data?

Is it possible to upload a RAW file to a public file sharing service like DropBox or elsewhere?

Since mirrorless and RF lenses cannot be micro adjusted, it's possible the OP is referring to a factory alignment.  My RF 24-70 is razor sharp.  I am regularly amazed by its IQ.

Hopefully he will provide some RAW examples for us.

"I know we all think we are do everything correctly..." And, I am not saying this is your case but it is a place to look as it is usually the problem. The R5 Mk II and RF 24-70mm f2.8L is an extremely capable and reliable combo.
