Over the past 2 weeks my RF 24-105 f4 L has begun making an audible squeak from about 50mm on to 105mm. It happens both zooming in and out (though louder when zooming out).
Has anyone else had this happen? I was just in Lebanon for 2 weeks and it’s pretty dusty there, so I’m assuming the dust is causing the squeak.
My lens is out of warranty, and will likely need either repair or maintenance.
Would appreciate any feedback from folks who’ve had this issue, and how they dealt with it.
Thanks for your time.

Came across your 2023 posts. I purchased the RF 24-70 as refurbed from Canon Direct. That refurbed, right out of the box, the zoom not only squeaked but was also noticeably tight. So, today, I received a free replacement with exactly the same issues.
Was your zoom ring a bit tight too?
Based on your experience, it seems that both of the refurbed I received are defective and need at least an adjustment. Do you agree?
Thanks in advance for you opinion

I can't speak to the design of the 24-70. In the case of the 24-105 it was dusty in Lebanon and the zoom mechanism being exposed likely couldn't keep dust our forever.
I sent the 24-105 back to Canon who cleaned/fixed the issue. Sorry this isn't much help, and I'm sure you're frustrates after receiving two squeaky lenses.
I hope you are able to resolve this with Canon, and get a quiet copy of the 24-70 on your camera soon.
Best,
~K
