RF 200-800 Lens Design Issue - Filter can't be used with hood

A friend of mine was lucky enough to have received her Canon RF 200-800mm lens that she had ordered in Nov. 2023.  She has encountered an issue with the lens design.   The new lens does not appear to allow use of a filter while the lens hood is in place.  She and her camera shop have tried a number of different brands of filters, but none appear to allow the lens hood to be mounted while a filter is attached.  This seems to be a rather inexcusable design flaw on Canon's part.  When Canon technical support was contacted, no one appeared to know anything about the issue.  With the exception of this problem, she loves her new lens.  Has anyone else encountered this issue with this lens?

I got my 200-800  five months ago and have had no issue with my filter, which is a B+W protect filter - used to keep environmental materials, such as dust, sand and salt off the expensive front element of the lens.

If you get a good lens, never put a cheap filter on - it basically degrades the image and the investment one has just made.   Prograde filters are anything but...

Thanks so much for figuring out the cause of the problem for my friend.  As I mentioned previously, when my wife's RF 200-800 lens arrived, we had no problems with the hood while using B+W or Canon filters.  These were the only 2 brands I had on hand.   I have confirmed that my friend had a Promaster filter, but still do not know what other filters were tried at her Canon dealer.  Perhaps they were also cheap filters.

Rick you are as gracious as you are knowledgeable, and in both you excel.

I've just purchased this lens and have the same problem. The filter I tried was a Sigma 95mm.

With our lens, I have tried filters from B+W and Canon. Both of these brands worked just fine.   My friend eventually purchased the Canon 95mm Protector Filter and that worked just fine for her.

Thanks, I'll head to my local dealers tomorrow!

My lens just arrived.  I don't have the filter yet but mine is 95mm and has a 3.3 mm frame.

The filter wasn't expensive and it's the first KF Concepts filter I've tried.  I bought the higher end model that has 99.8 light transmission and a  titanium coating  If I have any problems with it, I'm just going to buy the Hoya EVO.  This is the one that lensrentals rents the lens with and I've owned many Hoya filters since the late 70's.
