My EF-S 55-250mm lens won’t focus! HELP!! :(

Hello! I’m kinda new to my camera but not really. I have a Rebel T7, but my zoom lens won’t focus. It’s on Autofocus and i’ve tried switching modes, cleaning the lens, restarting the camera and resetting all the settings but the lens won’t zoom in at all. I used the lens a solid 20 minutes ago and it was perfect, but now it won’t focus. My other lens will focus and work fine but my zoom lens won’t.

:((

This is the lens, i’m not sure of the model if it’s not on there haha, i just know it’s a zoom lens but i’ve tried everything.

To reinforce my colleague's comment.  On the front of the lens there is something labelled MACRO (it's shown in your photo) - it's an add-on lens designed for taking very close-up images, and should be removed immediately by unscrewing it.  They are rubbish, so never put it back on again.  With that done, your camera and lens should function correctly.

I recommend you watch this video, given your level of knowledge - you have a bit of a learning curve and this will help:

Are you on Full auto A+ mode?

Do you have enough light?

Does it try to do anything?

It’s on AF and yep i’ve tried going outside and it’ll go in and out like it tries to focus but it will only go out one second then back in and stops trying to focus.

Do you have a screw on Macro adapter on the lens? If so, that probably only allows focusing at close distances (besides probably having poor image quality). Remove the attachment and see what happens.

The best advice whether this is your problem or not is to never add anything to the front of your lens except a hood or cap. There is a small argument as to whether certain filters are good but even they are severely limited to a very few or even only one type. Just don't do it.
