Lens problems!

Last Saturday, I took several photos of two grandkids at their riding lessons. When I got home, I started to wipe the lens, 18-55mm Macro. I thought the lens had crud on it but it looks like bubbles that you get when clear tape isn't applied smoothly. How did this happen? Had the lens for about three years and it didn't show up. Photos don't show any "hiccups" on viewing them on my laptop. Thinking about contacting Canon for service. Thanks for your time and advice.

Will live with the lens as-is. Lens glitches don't show up in photos. Will look at the 18-135 suggested by Trevor.

Thanks to all. First on the list is the protective lens filters mentioned earlier.

"First on the list is the protective lens filters mentioned earlier."

Don't waste your money on that lens. A protecto filter will not fix it or stop further damage. It is a case of closing the barn door after the horse has gotten away.

But be sure to protect your other lenses though.

I suspect that Ernie is right about this.  However, I would recommend a filter for any replacement lens.

I have another lens, 75-300mm, that uses the same size filter. Will buy filter for that one.

While I fully appreciate this is not economically viable right now, that 75-300 another lens to put on your replacement list when you can afford it! 😜  Glad to help with the Windows primer, any questions on that just ask.

There is one more point to make. People seem to fall into the thought once the filter goes on it can't be removed. Truth is if you see a situation where the protecto filter might cause issues in a  shot just remove it. Replace it after you are done.

Point number two. Keep your gear substantially level or equal. I.E., there is no good reason, makes little sense, to put a $50 protecto filter on a $100 lens.
