Focus preset not working on EF500mm F4 with R5 or 7d mark ii

Hello all, I bought a used EF 500mm F4 L IS USM apparently in near mint condition the only issue I have with it is that the focus preset does not work with my R5 or my 7d mark ii. Doe any one have any knowledge if this feature is or is not supported on the R5 or 7d2 with older EF Lenses?

I took these pages from the lens Manual and that is how I am trying to set the focus preset. I don't get a confirmation beep if set to the last most left position of the focus preset switch, and the playback ring does not do anything when I engage it to the left or right.

I meant to say the right most position on the switch as you are looking at it.

Does this lens require a battery?

No idea if it requires a battery , I will have to check on that, although I do not see where it would go on the lens.
