Flower and Landscape Lens Recommendations for EOS R7

Hi,

I'm the owner of an R7 with the kit (18-150) lens.

I originally bought it as an action camera for birding and sports but discovered that the digital viewfinder sometimes irritates my eye. So, I thought I would try using the flip out screen for landscape and flower photography.

I was hoping that Tamron would have an RF compatible zoom product available by now but that doesn't seem likely for 2024.

So, what Canon lens do you like among the RF50 1.8, RF16 2.8, RF28 2.8, RFS 10-18 4.5-6.3?

I would suggest the RF-S 10-18mm as the ideal choice for landscape given you already have the RF-S 18-150mm. This would give you that wide-angle view that is a popular choice for landscapes. For flowers you may want the assistance of a close-up / macro lens and for that you may want to consider one of the macro lenses such as the RF 85mm F2 Macro IS STM or the RF 35mm F1.8 Macro IS STM with the 85mm more suited to isolating details.

A different lens is not going to give you any eye relief using the EVF.  I've read that some people have extreme sensitivity to flickering light.  I haven't heard It mentioned before about the EVF.

You're really asking for two things with the type of photography and lenses you mentioned. 

The widest perspective will be achieved with the RF-S10-18.  It might not be best for flowers.  

I already feel like you have a very versatile lens for both purposes.  The MFD on 18-150 is 6.7 in.  

Two lenses that I believe will be more complementary are the RF35 F1.8 and the RF 100-400 f5.6-8.

I have to agree with Rick here with the exception of the RF 35mm f1.8.

So, if I were you I would really consider the RF 100-400 f5.6-8 first since you stated, "I originally bought it as an action camera for birding and sports...."

I think you will find any newer model Tamron especially any of the G2 series will work with your R7. Example the SP 150-600mm G2 (Generation 2) ultra-telephoto lens for instance or SP 70-200mm f/2.8  G2 Lens. . You will need the EF/RF adapter.

The Tamron product I was referencing is the 11-20mm 2.8 for the RF mount APS-C that was announced earlier this year. So far there isn't a timetable for production.
