EOS Rebel T6 Extender and Lens Recommendations

Apprentice

New to photography. I have a rebel t6 eos. I’ve recently moved to some acreage and have hawks that I want to photograph. The 300mm lens works good but images are still not what I want. Thinking of getting an extender or a bigger lens. Not sure what would be best. What extender fits my camera? Or what would be a good upgrade lens. Thanks in advance for any help

"I have the Sigma 150-600mm. Does a fine job."

The Sigma seems to be the more popular but I suspect that is because it is the cheaper one of the two. I, personally, have tested both as a matter of fact I have owned and/or tested every version of the so-called super zooms. Starting way back with the Sigma 150-500mm which I still own (get a good copy and you have a good one).

The difference in IQ is small with all of them pretty close to each other. The current Tamron G2 is better but mostly because it is the better built model and not its slight better IQ. Some weather sealing (Sigma C has none) and just a tiny bit better IQ put it on top in my book. Keep in mind that is the Tamron G2 not the original Tamron which between those two, I would choose Sigma C.

My personal choice is the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens which happens to be on sale right now. $300 bucks off, it is a fantastic lens.

Addendum

I still think in DSLR lens land, the biggest mistake that I think Canon made was not making a 150-600mm super zoom in the affordable price range for amateurs. I cannot even count how many amateurs I run in to that have passed the Rebel kit lens stage that go out and buy the Sigma C.
