When I attach my RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM lens with my Eos R8 it gives me Error 60 saying "Lens error will shut down automatically restart camera".
I have used this lens before and it worked just fine, and it is my third time using this lens and first time encountering this error. My other lens (and only other lens so I can't check this error message with more lenses) is RF 24-50mm F/4.5-6.3 IS STM and it does not have a problem.
I've checked for dust/sand or anything that would mess with mounting the lens, but nothing is there. I tried resetting my camera, taking out the battery and waiting to put it back in, remounting, nothing works. How can I fix this, or should I get it checked?

While failures are not that common, it does seem that the lens is the cause since the camera works with the other lens.
I suggest you get the lens looked at by Canon service while it's under warranty.

You posted this a while back so don't know if you've sorted it all but I have gotten the same 'Error 60...' message on my wife's R8 with one lense we share, an RF 14-35 f4. A handful of times, yesterday in fact, she'll put the lens on, it'll do that error and shut down like you experience. No amount of shaking, cleaning etc sorts it on her R8, but I can put it on my R7 and it's back in action immediately taking beautiful pictures normally. We can then put it back on the R8 and it'll work normally for a couple months before the next episode where the R7 brings it back to life.
I'm posting this so you have hope that if you can find a friend with an R7 (or any other R body probably) you could revive the lens.
I'm also posting this so if Canon is paying attention maybe there's a weird R8 firmware glitch that needs more investigation. It could be the lens as well since it's always the RF 14-35 but it never does an Error 60 on the R7 for starters.
Canon, if you're paying attention we'll send you any other info that could help. Fortunately we've always been together when this has happened and it's easy to swap quick and get back on track for months, but if my wife was alone with the lens and her R8 she'd be stuck.
* There are other Error 60 posts peppered across the Interwebs where folks have sent their lenses back to Canon and the error is not reproducible which also makes me wonder about firmware etc (in this case for the R8). Bottom line, hope you had some luck sorting it. Borrow a body if you haven't tried that trick yet. Canon, please come to the rescue if there's a firmware fix rather than something in the lenses 🤞🤞🤞

We're on a trip knocking out tons of grandkids pics and for kicks I just popped the RF 14-35 occasionally erroring lens back on her R8 and it's still shooting beautifully without errors. We'll probably get an Error 60 surprise in a few months but not today. Find an RF body to 'reboot' your lens and maybe there's hope (Canon - help us make sense of the behavior 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞)

I ended up having to send my lens back to canon but I will definitely try this if it has another error 60 episode later! Thanks!
