EF 28-200mm says lens contact faulty at 35-50mm

Hi! I am having problems with my 28-200 ef canon lens. When I zoom in between 35-50mm it says contact lens faulty but when I hold up the extended part of the barrel it works. I do not know what’s wrong with it. I use a 6d markii and all of my other lenses work, so I do not know what’s to do.

This sounds like a flex cable issue. Put the camera in Av Mode and set a small aperture such as F/16. Then press the depth of field preview button and see if it stops down. If it displays an error message that is the like cause. I’m not sure if Canon still repairs this lens. You’ll have to contact Canon for that.

It's a very old, more than a decade old lens, and I am almost certain Canon does not service them any longer. Besides the lens isn't worth much and any repair will far exceed the lens value. Your best course if you want to use that FL zoom lens is to look for a good used one. There are far better choices available for a great camera like the 6D Mk II. Try to stick with zooms that have a 1:3 zoom ratio as the ratio approaches 1:10 zooms suffer greatly in IQ.

Do you have the Sigma USB Doc? Perhaps it is something that a firmware update can fix. If you don't have one, sometimes local camera shops do and will update the firmware for you for a fee.

Also, the previous owner might have adjusted some of the settings and they may be out of range for you. You can reset them with the USB Doc ass well.

Not sure anything you can do with the USB Doc will solve your current issue, but perhaps worth a try before giving up on the lens.

"Do you have the Sigma USB Doc? "

The OP doesn't have a Sigma lens he has a Canon EF so the Sigma dock is useless.
