Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM photos come out black?

Hello, I just got my Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM for my canon 6d. Unfortunatley when I try to take photos there is always this black square no matter what my settings are. However, my 85mm 1.8 lens works perfectly on my 6d and this is my second time buying the lens because I thought that it might have been just the lens the first time. 

Has anyone experienced this before? Am I missing something?

You cannot use EF-S lenses on a full frame camera like the 6D.  Stop using immediately or you risk damaging the camera.  You need to use the EF lenses.

How was the OP even able to attach the lens to a 6D? I thought that EF-S lenses had a metal tab that prevented them from fitting into the lens mount on a FF camera.

One way is with a teleconverter that accepts both EF and EF-S lenses.

That's a very interesting point. Such a teleconverter would nullify any danger to the camera body from using the EF-S lens. It might even make the lens come closer to filling the FF camera's frame (but with very poor image quality, I would suspect).

But that said, it's extremely unlikely to be the OP's situation. Who uses a teleconverter on a 24mm lens? And from the sample pictures the OP provided, it appears that something is interfering with the mirror.

It is actually a grey rubber ring, that keeps EF-S lenses from mounting. I'm not sure how the OP got it mounted. But, now there are two messed up EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lenses in the system, that someone will get and complain about.

To answer your question, it was a tight fit, but managable. It does click on.

Then something is damaged on the len or the lens mount. EF-S lenses should *not* mount on an EF mount. Did you get the lens new?
