Canon EF 200-400mm L Release

It will cost about $11,000.00 according to the rumor sites. Anyone still seriously interested?

Ironically, a lot of us are waiting on an updated 100-400 since that lens design is really showing its age.  the 200-400 with the built-in 1.4x converter is already rumored to be priced out of most people's budget.  If they ever redo the 100-400, I suspect it will have a new price >$2500 which is more than a 400mm f5.6 lens (long end of the zoom) is worth to me.  On the other hand, if Canon would make a new 100-400 as a f3.5-4.5 with prime lens quality (similar to the 70-200mm f2.8L IS II) without the built-in 1.4x converter, I'd probably go as high as $5000 for it.  Not going to happen through since Canon seems to no longer be interested in inovating and content to be a market follower these days...

A similar lens that I'd probably be even more interested in is a 100-300mm f4L IS with constant aperture.  That one won't happen either since they released the 70-300mm f4-5.6L IS a while back; especially with the 200-400/4 if it ever gets released.  That would be too much overlap in in that lens range.  Back in the 35mm film days Tokina made a pretty good one (no IS of course).  I think Sigma may still have on in their lineup but it is dated and gets average to poor reviews.  The really high lens prices that Canon is charging with each new lens release/update opens the door for a third party lens maker to step up to the plate.
