I have a Canon EF 135mm f/2 L USM wich i would like to lend to my friend who has a canon 1100d wich uses the EF-s mount. I have heard that this lens is incompatible with EF-s cameras; is that true?

No not true EF lenses are always compatible on APS-C DSLRs. All L is a designation for professional level lens. The incompatibility is the other way EF-S lenses cannot be used on Full Frame cameras. There has never been an EF-S L lens. As you can see below in the lens compatibility chart. EF lenses are compatible on EF-S cameras. EF lenses can be L or non L. I have a picture below of my old EOS 40D with an EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS III USM lens mounted on it. The EOS 40D is an APS-C camera and everything works just fine with it with that lens. No incompatibilities.

The “L” has nothing to do with it.

Hi and welcome:
All Canon (or third-party) lenses with an EF mount will work on a crop-sensor camera with a EF-S mount, so your friend is about to be a very lucky person! 😊

I have the EF 135mm f/2L USM lens and can tell you for sure it fits on crop sensor cameras with EF-S mount.
