50 1.2 not focusing

Philmans123

Hi All,

My 50 1.2 has stopped focusing completely. I can manually focus but the auto-focus is dead. There has been no 'trauma' to the lens. It was working one day and then nothing the next. Any thoughts/suggestions before I send it in to Canon?

Thanks,

Phil

That may or may not be true. I agree it is not a lens contact issue, however. It is almost to never a contact issue unless someone abuses them by cleaning them improperly!

The EF 50mm f1.2L is one of my very most favorite prime lenses. It is a somewhat difficult lens to master as focus can be critical. It is big and it is heavy. It is a very old design and yours needs to go to Canon for service.

Luckily, I am made of money.😭

I also highly doubt its an electrical contact pin issue. The camera would've thrown a code for "Lens Communication Faulty".  You also wouldn't be able to control the aperture automatically or manually.
