what to do with unopened wrong # ink cartridges?

A friend gave me unopened PGI-5BK, CLI-8Y anda couple of others in the series... close (they will fit a Pixma 600) but not quite mine (MP640R) - what do I risk by trying one of them? Can I give them away somewhere? Hate to throw them in the trash. So close, but... dang.

Any idea where your friend purchased them?

If not, I'm not sure where we can recycle ink cartridges.

How much did you pay for them?

If nothing, you're out nothing, except recycling.

no way to return them. The packaging is opened although the actual cartridges are sealed. No idea where they came from. Anyone want them?
