"Offline" Why is my Canon MX850 telling me this?

My Canon MX850 tells me "Printer offline. Make sure the cable is connected."  Well, the cable is connected; in fact I have tried two new cables. It keeps telling me the same thing.  This happened to me once before. I couldn't print for about a month. Then, all of a sudden, it started working again....for about 3 weeks.  Now it is telling me it is "offline" again.  Any ideas?
