getting PIXMA iP8700-series printer to print only with PGBK ink

I am printing A3 sheets with text only on the backs.

At first, I found the files I needed in PDF form, and was able to print the backs of my sheets quickly and with great clarity, using them with the PGBK ink tank. However, I later discovered that the files I was using had somehow altered the document size, causing it to be misaligned with the coloured fronts.
I uploaded these files in Photoshop, as that is what I am printing the fronts from and was able to set the page print size to A3 borderless, and the backs are printing perfectly...except...

Now it takes 10 times as long to print one back and it is using the coloured inks. What settings for my Pixma iP8700 should I be using? I do not need photo quality for the text on the backs. Or can you advice a differnet tak, and what am I doing wrong for the original pdf's to not print to the full page size.

Thanks for joining the conversation, claremax!

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which Canon printer model you're using.  The model number should be on the front of your printer at the upper left.  That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.

Thanks and have a great day!

I thought - PIXMA iP8700 was the model. Could it be an Australian model?

My printer is taking over 5 minutes to print black text on the back of an A3 page.

Hi claremax,

What version of Windows is installed on your computer?
If you are using a Mac, what version of the Mac operating system is installed?

Are you using your PIXMA iP8720 wirelessly?
or are you using it with a USB cable?
