This has been a great printer so I would like to keep it going! The error message that the ink absorber is almost full has come up. I think from reading that I can take it out, wash it and put it back-- However, I have no idea where it is located and the manual has not been helpful at all. Any suggestions as to where to find it would be really helpful. Thanks!

Sorry not helpful. However, since I couldn't find the ink absorber myself I found a printer service who did. The ink absorber was buried in the machine. It was cleaned and put back and the counter was reset- all for a nominal charge. The interesting part is that the printer is certainly designed for obsolescence as the counter can only be reset once and then I will have to throw the printer away--- not very environmentally friendly! When the time comes I will look for something that can be repaired when the printer is in such good shape so as not to damage the environment.

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MX860 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

SWJ. I've enjoyed by MX860 for many years. Encountered the ink absorber message in the last few weeks. Initially it went away by pressing "OK" but now it says must contact Canon for service. I still have lots of ink left to use so looking for an affordable solution to rest the MX860. Looks like you found a good one. What kind of print service did you use to fix and reset the counter ? Just a regular PC repair shop ? Thanks in advance

I found a repair service in my area that repairs Canon printers among others. I don't think there's a lot of places that repair ink jet printers so I just may have lucked out. As you mentioned, I also have a lot of ink cartridges left so I want to use them up so we'll see-- so far so good! It works as good as new.
