I am trying to use my Pixma MP470 printer to print an e-mail. I get a drop-down that tells me the printer has been paused. To resume the job it asks me to type in a name and password. I've tried all the names I've used elswhere on the computer, but haven't succeeded in hitting the right one. Where can I find It? (The password doesn't seem to be a problem, because it gives me a hint to the correct one...)

Thank you for your reply. I ended up taking my computer to the Apple Grnius. He fixed it -- it was a computer, not a printer, problem.

Hi there!
To clarify, none of the official Canon software will ever require a username or password, unless you have very restricted access to your computer (like a work computer), and you need administrator access, but so that the community can offer the best answer, we'll need to know your computer's Operating System (Windows XP/Vista/7/8 or Mac 10.x), as well as the way you connect to your device (USB or networked via WiFi or Ethernet).
Any other details you'd like to give will only help the Community better understand your issue!

I'm using a MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8. The printer is connected to my commputer via a USB cord. When I click File > PRINT, I get a drop-down that says "The printer has been paused. Do you want it to resume printing? If you do not want to resume the printing of jobs, you may add this job to the queue for later printing. If you select Resume and the printing of jobs cannot be resumed, this job will automatically be added to the queue." At the bottom of the drop-down I have the choice to CANCEL, ADD TO QUEUE, and RESUME. When I click RESUME, I get another drop-down with this message: "Type the name and password of a user in the " _loperator" group to allow Safari to make changes." Ive tried every user name I can think of that I have ever used for anything on this computer, and none work. The password is easy because it gives me the hint "pet's name".
Thanks for your help.

My computer is a personal computer, not a work computer. I still haven't received any replys to my problem except this one of yours. I haven't been able to use my printer for more than a week. Is the problem with the printer or the computer?

Hi wrbreher,
We can reset the printer system on the computer to try and resolve the issue. To do this, please follow these steps:
1. Go to your Apple icon on the upper left corner of your screen.
2. Click System Preferences.
3. Click Print & Fax
4. Right click your printer on the left and select "Reset printer system". Note: If right click does not work, press and hold the control key on your keyboard and then click the mouse button.
5. If your printer is still listed on the left select your printer and then click the minus (-) button to delete it.
6. Restart your Mac.
Next, you will need to download the latest drivers for the printer from the Canon USA website. The following link will take you to the PIXMA MP470 Drivers and Software page:
PIXMA MP470 Drivers and Software page
Once on the initial download page for your model, please do the following:
1. Verify that the operating system detected in the "OPERATING SYSTEM" drop-down menu is correct, and if it is not, please click the drop-down menu to select your operating system.
2. Next, please click on the red arrow next to the "DRIVERS" section and click on the CUPS file. When you do, another page will appear giving details of the file you are about to download will appear.
3. Please scroll down on the Details page and agree to the terms of the disclaimer message to continue with the download process by clicking on the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button. After clicking the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button, follow the instructions to download and install the driver. The time for the download process may vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the file being downloaded.
Once you have downloaded and installed the CUPS drivers from the website, please follow the steps above to also download the Scanner Driver and ICA Driver. Once you have installed the CUPS, Scanner and ICA drivers, please restart your Mac and attempt to print.
Hope this helps!
