Hello.
The LCD display will enter a power saving state if the unit has been unused for an extended period of time.
However, if the display is always blank, or you get no response with the display when the buttons are pressed there may be an issue with the printer.

I have already contacted Canon support and was advised the printerhad a problem. I will be getting a new one and sending the old one back.
