Shadow letters with XL ink - PIXMA TS3522

I just bought a TS3522 today and I used all of the ink that came with the printer already and when I put in the XL in I bought (the right numbers) it's printing with a shadow behind it. It's only the XL ink though bc when I switched back to the almost empty ones it came with it was printing fine again. Is there anything I can do to make the shadow letters stop?

Hi Jademarie! Thanks for posting in the Canon Community Forum. I see that the letters that print with your PIXMA TS3522 have shadows when using the XL cartridge that you purchased.

If this was happening with the new XL cartridges and the previously used cartridges, I would recommend checking the Encoder Film. A smudge on that ribbon can cause shadowy prints or ghost printing (faint letters slightly to the side of the original letters making it look like letters behind letters). The instructions for checking and cleaning the encoder film (also called a timing strip) are in the following web article:

https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART179518

If the ghost printing is only happening with the XL cartridge, it may be a problem with that one cartridge. If so, then installing a new cartridge will fix the issue. The XL cartridges should work the same as the regular ones. There is no extra step you need to take to use them.

I recommend that you check the encoder film using the instructions in the link I mentioned earlier. If there is no smudge, I recommend you call in for support. If you created a Canon account and registered your printer, you should be able to call us at 1-800-652-2666.

If you have not created a Canon Account and registered your printer, you can visit the following website to do so:

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing Canon.
