Purchased GX4020 and cannot register in USA

Brianwuz

I purchased a MAXIFY GX4020, Serial KNWV????? from American Dream Deals, a company in New York. When I tried to register it, page said that the serial number was either incorrect which it is not or could not be registered in the USA.

You got a Dream Deal because it's a gray market product. Sorry about that. Sounds like a company to not do business with.

I read all the reviews on the item and there was no mention of the registration issue. I sent the seller a message and will give them a couple days to respond then I will post a review for their item detailing the registration issue. I went to the canon.ca site to try and register it there but they are moving servers and the login function is not available yet. Not sure if that is possible but read somewhere where someone else registered on Canadian site.

Greetings Brianwuz,

Our recommendation is return your purchase and buy from a Canon Authorized Dealer in the United States.  Canon USA may not be able to service your grey market product intended for sale in another country or region.  That means you will not have a US warranty or the ability to receive service or support.  Its not worth the risk.

Here is a list of Authorized Dealers.

You'll notice American Dream Deals is not on this list.  This seller could be engaged in illegal activity.

Hi, Brian!  That serial number specifically corresponds to MAXIFY GX4020 units that were intended for sale exclusively in Canada.  As we've set up our registration page to only recognize US-spec serial numbers, a Canadian number would be rejected.

Hope this info helps!
