Hi WarrenH,
The Avery labels media type is not supported in the PIXMA printer because of the way the printer feeds paper. Please click HERE for the paper that is supported by your printer.
With that being said, as a workaround, you can try to change the paper setting to Photo or Matte paper. Changing the paper setting would allow a little more room between the paper and the nozzles. Please note that I can't guarantee this option will work since label paper is not ment to be used with this printer.
