I keep getting an error message that says the rear paper is jammed. There is no paper in the machine anywhere. This printer is only a month old.

I read the posts on this site and had the same issue. I kept getting a message that I had a Code 1300 paper jam and it took me thought the steps of opening the front cover and moving the ink cartridges and looking for a paper jam and then how to pull it out gently. I could not find anything jammed, even with a flashlight. I tried unplugging it and turning it back on and no help there. I finally took out the paper trays and looked behind them with my flashlight! Sure enough! There was a whole sheet of paper jammed in back there. The directions on the screen didn't mentioned taking out the paper trays and looking for a paper jam back there!. I plugged it back in and after it did some cleaning for a bit, I can now print again. I know how frustrating these things can be, so I wanted to offer my solution for everyone else!

Canon imageClass MF229dw, one year old, second toner cart
Problem - Printing off-axis on second-side print, paper jam error notice with no easy-to-find jam
We recently noticed that the printed second-side on a two-sided job was running askew, off-angle by several degrees. We ran numerous tests. The support chains offered nothing. Canon Support told us to make sure we were using a surge protector and "laser printer-rated" paper. Of course we use a surge protector. We bought laser-printer-rated paper. Nothing changed. Useless support, Canon. Then the printer stopped functioning altogether reporting a paper jam. We could not find any jam.
Noting that someone in this chain mentioned taking a flashlight to the task of finding the paper jam we up-ended the laser printer on a soft surface and accordioned it out. We removed the toner cart. Above the toner cart is a small aquamarine tab. Dropping that and looking in we found our culprits. There *was* a paper jam, very difficult to find. Someone with small fingers was able to work the pages out.
Once both pages were removed, the printer worked as it should. The askewed second side print was fixed. The jam error-notice went away.
So for Canon, if a second-side print is printing at an odd angle (while the first page is fine), this might be indication that there is a deep paper jam or a piece of paper caught deep in the rollers otherwise not triggering the sensors.
This has been an otherwise fantastic printer over the past year. After much research we settled on this unit with high hopes for long life. Family members have gone out and grabbed units of their own. We are grateful for this support chain. We have been disappointed with Canon's depth of support. I would bet we're not the first to face this problem.

I have been disappointed with theoir products. My first Canon productwas a SLR camera. Absolute POS! I repeatedly took it in to Canon to see why I was having bad pictures. Canon themselves could not fix it. So, I gave up and sold it for a pittance. No more Canon.
I now swear by HP. lexmark is not bad, either, but HP takes the cake.

MG2950 (I know it is UK bought but only forum I have found) - same annoying problem running from my MacBook Pro and Win 10 PC. No obvious stuck paper. Is there no option for a forced reset or similar? Reloading the driver has not worked.
I am assuming a faulty sensor somewhere so printer kaput!

I have Pixma MG3000 series. I have had it about 6 months - a replacement for the previous one that couldn't feed the paper through the printer correctly while still under a year old - and under warranty. Today the warning light on the replacement printer started flashing 3 times in a row. there is no error code on the screen as i wasn't actually attempting to print something. however, it won't allow me to print or scan anything. even if i did have a paper jam why wouldn't i be able to scan? According to your trouble shooting guide it says if there is no paper jammed in the unit i need to take it to my nearest service center. Really?
I just bought fresh ink for this printer. i just wasted $50.
I have had printer issues with virtually every brand out there, canon, hp, epson, brother. none last more than 1-2 years and inevitably have issues right after i buy new ink. the obvious solution is to pay staples to print my docs - the over all cost per page comes out cheaper when you consider the number of docs i print, the cost of regularly replacing printers and the cost of ink and paper. I know many who feel the solution is to buy a new printer instead of buying replacement ink (printers are often cheaper). Unfortunately, electronics are considered hazardous waste and must be disposed of separately - and the plastic parts only adds to the junk piling up in our landfills. ink is hazardous waste as well. so much for the environment.
in this increasingly paperless society the printer is going the way of the CD player. we really don't need you anymore.

Hey there, I know it has been a while since your problem occured, though I have happened to me recently and I want to let you know I have found a solution.
[PROBLEM]
Some plastic paper dropped in the paper tray a while ago, I thought I had it removed completely but the error kept occuring.
[SOLUTION]
I folded a clean A4 sized paper vertically and wiped it through the bottom of the paper tray (into the inner printer) a small piece of ripped plastic came out. No error since. Though.. I messed up my printer and doesn't print like it used to:(
Hope it helps anyone.
