This is best info I could find to reset the code when there is no obvious paper  or pieces of  jammed in the printer:

Understanding Error Code 1300 on Pixma iP2700

Error code 1300 on the Canon Pixma iP2700 typically indicates a paper-related issue, even if there is no visible paper jam. Here are some common causes and solutions.

Possible Causes

  • Paper Misalignment: The paper may not be loaded correctly in the tray.
  • Incorrect Paper Size: The paper size set in the printer settings may not match the actual paper loaded.
  • Sensor Issues: The paper sensor might be dirty or malfunctioning.
  • Paper Type: Using the wrong type of paper can trigger this error.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check Paper Loading:

    • Ensure the paper is loaded properly in the tray.
    • Adjust the paper guides to fit snugly against the paper.
  2. Verify Paper Size:

    • Confirm that the paper size in the printer settings matches the paper loaded.
  3. Inspect for Obstructions:

    • Look for any small pieces of paper or debris inside the printer that could affect the sensors.
  4. Clean the Sensors:

    • Gently clean the paper sensors with a soft, dry cloth to remove any dust or residue.
  5. Reset the Printer:

    • Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.

If the error persists after these steps, consider consulting the printer's manual or contacting Canon support for further assistan

Check inside the printer, paper fragments in the paper feed path?  Dirty rollers?

Thanks. No traces of paper - could it be hardware error?

Could be, did you clear a paper jam before the error, or did it show up on its own?

No previous paper jam. Haven't used the printer for a few months. I had to install a new driver first but got this error when I turned it on. I'm running a fairly old imac using Mac OS High Sierra.
