Pixma ix6500 / "6550" not printing black!

Hi there!
As far as I can see, this issue is common. I have cleaned and reinstalled and tried it on 2 computers, the printer refuses to print black. The test page looks good, printing black etc, but printing from the computer, black is missing.

I believe this is a firmware issue, can I flash it somehow, or what can I do?

Does not feel good to spend more money on this as I have spent pretty much already trying to fix the problem.

What can I do to flash the firmware? I believe that's the issue in my situation here!

Is there any software for that?
