Pixma iX6820 Printer flashing 12 times at initial set up

This is a BRAND NEW printer that I just took out of the box and setting up.  After powering up, orange and white lights flash 12 times in sequence. All I am trying to do is complete initial set-up.  I  cannot even connect to my computer and/or phone due to initial set up not completing so I    cannot gather an error code.  Any idea of why this is happening?
