Update, I contnued to read the postings. In Florida we get a lot of power flickers, and someone suggested reloading the printer driver if you could print a maintenance page, despite the error. That seems to work for a bit, but after a small number of pages it errors out again. I've been turning it off and unplugging. so far, when I turn it back on it works for a while.
It's too bad Canon makes such life limited printers.
