Pixma MX492 Keeps Cycling, cannot power off, cannot apply firmware update fix

I cannot get the recommended firmware update to install.  

No buttons on the display panel are responsive to disable LAN.  

Power button does not turn off power.  Yellow indicator light just flashes.  

Laptop does not find printer when using USB (tried 2 different cables).

I can’t neither. I turn off all my routers like someone suggested. I’m on a Mac and I don’t get step #4-6
