How can I setup the printer with my laptop if my laptop has no cd drive? Shouldn't there be a way to conduct the installation from the Canon website?

You can easily set up the necessary driver by downloading the driver and software from the Canon website. In the case of MG8220, all of the drivers and software can be found at http://goo.gl/QyRStC
Download the necessary driver(s), and then open the file and follow the instructions. Most of the time, the drivers at the Canon website is the latest driver, while the driver included in the CD-ROM is perhaps outdated, as it is produced already months or years before. For Pixma MG8220, for example, the drivers found in the Canon website are the latest ones that conform to the OS Mavericks standard.
Good luck!
