PIXMA iX6820 Dark toner marks across panoramic prints

I'm getting some dark toner marks about 3/4" into, across my 8.3" wide panoramic prints.

Pixma iX6820: This began after one of the panoramic sheets didn't feed, and the toner for the job welled-up inside the printer. I've gone through all the nozzle, plate, and roller cleaning steps; and have made numerous subsequent prints, to no avail. Also, it only seems to happen when I'm using the 8.3" wide panorama paper.

First off you are getting ink smudges not toner smudges. I suspect your paper path is dirty somewhere. This may help:

Dark ink marks on panoramic prints from the PIXMA iX6820 may indicate issues with the print head or clogged nozzles. Running a nozzle check and performing head cleaning can help resolve this problem.

Issue Overview

Dark ink marks on panoramic prints from the Canon PIXMA iX6820 can be caused by several factors, including print head issues, incorrect settings, or media type selection.

Common Causes

Print Head Problems

  • Clogged Nozzles: If the print head nozzles are clogged, it can lead to inconsistent ink flow, resulting in dark marks.
  • Alignment Issues: Misalignment of the print head can also cause streaks or marks.

Incorrect Settings

  • Media Type: Using the wrong media type setting can affect ink distribution. Ensure the correct media type is selected for the paper being used.
  • Print Quality Settings: Higher quality settings may help reduce marks by ensuring better ink application.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Run a Nozzle Check: This will help identify if any nozzles are clogged.
  2. Perform Head Cleaning: Use the printer's maintenance options to clean the print head.
  3. Check Media Type: Ensure the media type in the printer settings matches the paper being used.
  4. Adjust Print Settings: Experiment with different print quality settings to see if it improves the output.

Additional Tips

  • Use Quality Paper: Ensure you are using high-quality paper suitable for panoramic prints.
  • Firmware Updates: Check for any available firmware updates for the printer, as these can resolve bugs and improve performance.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the issue of dark ink marks on your panoramic prints.

As the only sheets that were being affected were cut from rolls, I eventually realized that the problem was a result of abrasion due to paper curling. So relaxing the paper for a few days before printing, solved the problem.
