PIXMA TS9120 huge gaps in print outs not in best quality

I have a Canon PIXMA TS9120.  I now get huge gaps at times when I print unless I select best quality.  Best quality seems ok.  I used to get normal prints at medium quality.  I have several MacOS machines with Catalina - all have the same issue.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Have you performed a nozzle check and maintenance tasks?

I noticed printing PGBK in the test page prints.... NOTHING.  Hard to notice the nothing...  I put in a new cartridge - same thing.  Did a cleaning...  Still nothing.
