PIXMA TS6420a Won't Consistently Print

cmf22345

I'm at my wits end here and desperately need help as this printer is vital to my business. I've been having issues lately where when I send a document to print the printer gets "stuck" in a message of receiving the document and after several minutes spits out a blank page. I tried all of the the recommended tips I could find including:

  • Powering the printer down and restarting
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (this occasionally has worked but now no longer does)
  • "forgetting" the printer and then reconnecting
  • Restarting the computer and the printer, disconnecting them and reconnecting them etc

Currently none of these are working where before I had some success the option 2, but that would only last a couple of days. I'm on a MacBook Air OS Ventura 13.

Please help! Thanks.

Edit to add: I have checked ink levels (Canon brand only, no aftermarket) and they are at halfway. So, plenty of ink.

I've got the same issue with mine.  That is when I can get it to print from an iPhone, if I even can.

Greetings, cmf22345,

Thanks for providing information about your printer model and the operating system you're using it with.

Can you please confirm how the printer is connected and to what?

If you are using the  printer on a wireless network, please note the printer requires a 2.4 GHz broadcast that supports WPA2/AES encryption.  Please ensure your network supports these standards.

To ensure persistency, I suggest you assign a static IP to the device on your router.  Please copy the assigned IP, you will need it later.  Once this is done, please perform the following steps.

On the MAC, Open Apple menu, System Preferences, Printers and Scanners.

Select the printer.  Use the minus (-) key to remove the printer.  Next open Finder, visit the applications folder.  Uninstall the Canon drivers for your device.

Important, restart your Mac.

Now visit the support portal for your device.

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-ts6420a#idReference%3Dsoftware-drivers

Select support, downloads, Mac, OSX 13 Ventura

I'd probably grab the TS6400 series setup for Mac and the IJ scan utility lite.

Now return to the Printers and Scanners App under system preferences.  Add the printer as an IP device.  When adding there's a field below the IP address where you can supply a friendly name.

Once added, run the TS640 Series setup.  After that run the IJ scan utility lite.

Return to the printers and scanners applet.  Select the printer and confirm the driver dropdown displays the TS6400 series driver you installed earlier.  Test printing and test scanning.

Assigning a static IP to the device is an important step. It ensures persistency and that the printer's assigned IPaddress can be used as the destination, and will never change.

If you are using USB, after the system is restarted, run the installers above and do not connect the printer until prompted to do so.

I’ve done all of that a few times already as per tech support but it’s still not working as it should.  My printer is connected to WiFi and the most successful use of the printer occurred after setting up WiFi via the printer itself.  But it’s still extremely wonky if it prints or not on ANY device - PC, Mac or iOS device.
