PIXMA TS5020 - Support Code 6004

My Canon PIXMA TS5020 which has been working perfectly for a few years has suddenly decided to throw Support Code 6004 every time it is turned on.

 

Support Code 6004
Printer error has occurred. Follow the steps below.
1. Cancel printing, then turn the device off.
2. Turn the device on again.
If problem persists, see the manual and contact the service center.

This comes up immediately during boot and pressing Cancel or any other button has no effect. I've tried "turning it off and on again" and leaving it unplugged for an hour but still this comes up, whether or not any computers connected to the printer are on or off. I've tried every day for about a week now hoping it will fix itself, but no such luck. I've tried re-installing the Canon software on my Windows 10 PC, and the software is still able to find the printer wirelessly and connect to it, but when I go to print, I get an error popup from the printer again with code 6004. To me this means the wireless connection is working fine and it's something with the printer itself that is going on. I've checked around inside and under and there doesn't appear to be any paper jam. I mostly use the printer for its flatbed scanner.

Please follow the steps listed on this page to check for paper jams/foreign objects in your PIXMA TS5020:

If the 6004 error persists, your PIXMA TS5020 would require service. You are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program.  This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system.  This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.

 

To help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free standard shipping (if the order is completed by 12:30PM ET).  If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.  Let them know you have been working with technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.

I have the same problem. No jams either. Since most forums say to contact Canon for repairs, I believe they can only fix it but machine not worth it.
