I just bought a PIXMA TR8620a. Before buying, an online search stated that Avery mailing labels could be printed via the rear paper tray.  I registered the printer with Canon, but I can't find instruction on how to print labels.  Thank you for any information you can provide.

Printer Setup

To print Avery labels using the PIXMA TR8620, follow these steps:

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure you are using Avery labels designed for inkjet printers.
  • Paper Size: Set the paper size to 8.5 x 11 inches in your printer settings.
  • Print Quality: For glossy labels, select "Normal" print quality. For other labels, choose "Best" print quality to avoid misalignment.

Loading Labels

When loading labels into the printer:

  • Use Manual Feed Tray: If available, use the manual feed tray for a straight paper path, which helps with accurate feeding.
  • Fan the Sheets: Before placing the labels in the tray, fan them to prevent sticking.
  • Capacity: Do not overfill the tray; keep it at half or three-quarters full.
  • Paper Guides: Adjust the paper guides snugly against the edges of the labels.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If the printer pulls multiple sheets at once:

  • Single Sheet Feeding: Feed one sheet at a time to prevent jams.
  • Check Settings: Ensure that the correct Avery template is used for your labels to avoid misalignment.

By following these guidelines, you can effectively print Avery labels with your PIXMA TR8620 printer.

Added:  I will use Windows mail merge to print the labels.  I need information on how to properly use the Avery labels with my PIXMA TR8620a.  Thanks.

Thank you very much DerrickL.  I managed to print my Avery mailing labels today with the help of a friend.

In addition to the settings you gave, he added a few more that worked for me.  I didn't check to see if other settings also work.  Your settings plus the following selections in the printer properties:

Borderless Printing; Grayscale Printing; Media Type - Greeting Cards - Inkjet Greeting Card.

(Of course, Paper Source - Rear Tray)

Thanks again.  Too bad Canon didn't just put this in the user manual.
