PIXMA TR7020 no values appear for manual alignment

When I attempt to manually align the printer head, no values ever appear on the LCD of the machine, only questions to print patterns ever appear over and over. I have followed the online instructions and cannot get past this. I have attached a photo of the print pattern.IMG_1018.JPG

I have followed the steps for aligning the print head manually, and have gone through the process twice. However, I believe the misalignment issue remains. I attach a copy of a printed page that reveals the problem.IMG_1021.jpg

It turned out to be a bad black ink cartridge. Thanks for your assistance.
