PIXMA TR7020 no values appear for manual alignment

When I attempt to manually align the printer head, no values ever appear on the LCD of the machine, only questions to print patterns ever appear over and over. I have followed the online instructions and cannot get past this. I have attached a photo of the print pattern.

I have followed the steps for aligning the print head manually, and have gone through the process twice. However, I believe the misalignment issue remains. I attach a copy of a printed page that reveals the problem.

Please ensure the encoder timing strip is not smeared or dirty.

Can you please confirm you you using Canon brand CL and PG Inks.

It turned out to be a bad black ink cartridge. Thanks for your assistance.
