i am replacing my TR4720 with new one. went through the setup process and am able to scan but not print. does not make sense. when i print a window appears and notes 'off line'. how can that be if i can scan?

Hey there!
Because this is a replacement printer, you'll need to set it up like it's brand new, including the software. From the computer you want to use with the printer, go to http://ij.start.canon/tr4720 and follow the instructions in part B. It will uninstall any existing software and drivers and re-pair the printer for you.
If you do this and it still gives you problems, get in touch with support during their normal business hours of 9am to 6pm (ET), weekdays at 1-800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666).
