PIXMA MX922 failure to recognize magenta ink cartridge

Tommy2721

My printer will not recognize a new Canon ink cartridge. As near as I can tell, all contacts are mating with the new cartridge, but the light doesn't come one and the printer reports the cartridge is unrecognizable.  The print then is unable to do anything.

What can I do to fix this?

Hi Tommy2721,

When you insert the ink tank and close the cover, does a Support Code appear on the display of your PIXMA MX922?

Please take a photo of the ink tanks installed in your printer and then please reply to this post with that image.

Troubleshooting Canon PIXMA MX922 Ink Cartridge Recognition

If your Canon PIXMA MX922 is not recognizing a new magenta ink cartridge, follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Initial Checks

  1. Proper Installation
    • Ensure the cartridge is installed correctly. Remove and reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place.
  2. Remove Protective Tape

    • Check for any protective tape on the cartridge that may not have been removed. This tape can block ink flow.
  3. Clean Contacts

    • Inspect the metal contacts on both the cartridge and the printer. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth to remove any dust or ink residue.
  4. Restart the Printer

    • Power off the printer, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This can refresh the printer's system and may resolve recognition issues.
    • If this does not resolve the problem it is possible you have a bad cartridge. If the original magenta cartridge can be reinstalled and lights up, you will need a replacement magenta cartridge.
