PIXMA MG8120 rear sheet feeder malfunction

Hello All!

I'm ripping my hair out on this one, so I hope someone can help.

I have the MG 8120 and the rear sheet feeder is not working correctly at all. It is definitely not a "clean the rollers"  etc issue.

At times, the gap between the roller and the plastic of the sheet feeder that the paper rests on is way too large so that allows serveral sheets to slip down into the rollers and then cause a paper jam.

Rarely, a few multiple consecutive sheets will be one by one fed correctly, but inevitably an error will occur as the paper slips down into the gap.

If I just stand beside the printer and pull the paper back out a bit after the click of the paper feeder gripping the paper each time then the pages feed correctly, but obviously this is not a solution. And that's another thing, I thought that when the print job first starts there is a kind of snap or click that the feeder makes to start the paper feeding and then afterwards, the pages are fed one by one. In my case it seems like this snapping noise made by the feeder happens for every page that is printed and of course the error occurs before the printer gets a chance to feed many consecutive pages anyway.

Not only does the error occur when too many pages are fed together or fed overlapping, but a single sheet can be picked up seemingly correctly, but I guess it is not picked up at quite the right point, so it feeds straight into the machine part way and stops and gives the error. In this case, I can just easily pull the page the rest of the way through the printer to clear it and then try again.

Does anyone have and ideas how I can rectify this issue. I print a lot of photos etc that must be fed via the rear sheet feeder, so I really need it to work correctly.

Thanks,

Jiefoo

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MG8120 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!
