PIXMA MG3660 - Printer constantly cleaning - I only want to scan!

Hi everyone.

I have an old MG3660 multifunction printer/scanner/copier.

I use it ONLY for scanning now, but unfortunately it constantly tries to clean the ink heads, and I also consistently get an error code (2, 140,21 - basically, it's telling me I'm out of ink!  I know this, and I don't care!  I don't want to print anything!), which interrupts the scanning, and means I can't actually scan my documents.

Is there any way I can disable the cleaning process, thereby allowing me to only use the scanner?

Thanks heaps for any help you can offer.

Greetings,

The MG3620 is about 10 years old.  If you don't need a printer / scanner combo, replacing it with a dedicated document scanner might be good way to go.  Many people fail to take their time into consideration.  Time is valuable and unnecessary interruptions, just waste it. Its job is to tell you when it's ink is low or empty.  It sounds like your MG3620 has had a good long life.

I found I was better served with laser.  The toner lasts much longer and it doesn't dry up or get clogged.  Its always ready to go whether I print every day or once a month.

Thanks for your response, Rick.

However:

First off, it is an MG3660, NOT the model you quoted… and yea, it’s probably even older!

Secondly, the printer/scanner belongs to a non-profit organisation that I volunteer for, and cannot simply be replaced.

I do appreciate your suggestion, but it’s irrelevant to the question I asked.  Do you have any suggestions for disabling the printer function, as I initially requested, please?

Thanks again for your help.
