I recently purchased a MG2522 Canon printer for my home use. The box indicates there should be a USB connector. I have been unable to scan with this printer and I am wondering if it is because this connector was not included?

Your printer's connectivity is by USB cable, so OF COURSE it has a USB connector. Your manual shows where it is if you can't recognize the USB-B port. Didn't the printer come with a USB cable?
And, certainly, you cannot scan unless the printer/scanner is connected to a computer and functioning. There's no place for a scan file to GO, otherwise.

There is NO USB connection port on the MG2522, believe me I've looked!

Where are you looking? Don't the setup instructions show you where it is? It's on the back, on the right end. Do you know what a USB-B port looks like? Kind of squareish with rounded top corners.
