PIXMA MG2120 ink cartridge not recognized

Canon pixma mg2120 will not acknowledge new black ink cartridge. help!

Error 5 inappropriate ink cartridge is loaded. This is all the printer and software tell me. Printer is Canon Pixma mg2120. I replaced ink cartridge that was empty with the same type of black cartridge 240xl. Color cartridge is still half full.
