Hi,
To begin troubleshooting please try cleaning the encoder strip in your printer by using the steps HERE.

The original poster may have had the model you mention, but I don't think the model is relevant here. I've got a PIXMA Megatank G4210.

Just indicate what you want to chat about here. If you're curious, the only issue I had with the link provided was that I didn't understand at first that the thing I had to clean was a transparent very thin strip of plastic -- I didn't even see it at first.
