Narrow vertical line TR4722

I have a Canon TR4722 printer and get a narrow vertical line on scanned documents.  I've tried running the maintenance but still get the line.  Very annoying.  Is this a common problem with a simple fix?

Cause of Vertical Lines in Scans

Vertical lines appearing in scans from the Canon PIXMA TR4722 are often caused by dirt or smudges on the scanner glass. This issue typically arises when using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

Cleaning Instructions

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Cleaning

  1. Open the ADF Lid
    • This will give you access to the scanner glass used for the document feeder.
  2. Locate the Small Strip of Glass

    • There is a narrow strip of glass on the left side, separate from the main scanning area.
  3. Clean the Glass

    • Use a damp cloth to gently wipe the small glass strip.
    • For stubborn smudges, apply isopropyl alcohol to the cloth and clean the area carefully.

Additional Tips

  • Ensure that the cloth is not too wet to avoid moisture getting into the scanner.
  • Regular cleaning can help maintain scan quality and prevent future issues.
