Mobile Printing vs. Wifi Direct

Chipmeister

Looking at various new models and I'm not clear on the Wifi Direct vs. Mobile Printing. I basically understand Wifi Direct but am wondering how mobile printing figures into the equation. I assume it has something to do with how individual devices connect. I'll be doing most of my printing from a laptop which I assume will be a pretty simple connection with the Wifi Direct (old printer did not have it), but not sure why other devices such as tablets, phones would connect differently. Thanks for the help.

There is a technology called "Near Field Communications" that is a very-short-range wireless system. It is being called "Mobile Printing". It is part of some printers available now, and some devices like phones, tablets, etc.

It is convenient for walkup situations where users can stand next to the printer in a workplace and print from their phone or laptop, without going through WiFi setup.

Greetings,

Normadel summed things up nicely.  If you have a wireless network available, connecting the printer to it offers the most versatility.  Connecting the printer to it allows any device that joins the network to print.

Wi-Fi direct works well in a pinch and allows individual devices to connect directly to the printer one at a time for printing.
