I have been reading the threads about cnmnpu.exe and also New port could not be created: 0000. However I was not able to solve the issue.
I have removed all Canon software, run cnmnpu.exe and then SETUP64. I'm still getting the same issue "new port could not be created. : 0023" when trying to install mp68-win-mx490-1_02-ea33_3.
I was able to print but I couldn't scan and therefore started the whole installation process and search from this forum.
Unfortunately I couldn't solve the issue and am looking forward to receiving some help.
Hi. Thank you for your post. I understand that you are being told that a "New Port Could Not Be Created" when you try to install the MP Drivers for your PIXMA MX492 on your Windows computer.
This error usually occurs when the computer is unable to set up a port for the printer. It could be that the computer already had a port for that specific printer or that there are remnants of a previous printer installation interfering with the setup. It may also be that there is an issue with the computer.
I can help you with this issue. However, the process of correcting this issue is very complex. If you would rather have a live technician guide you through the necessary steps, I recommend that you create a My Canon Account and see what support options are available to you. If you are not entitled to Phone or Chat support, you can call 1-800-652-2666 and say the word “Purchase” to speak with Canon Sales and pay for support.
To create a My Canon Account and register the printer, please visit the following website:
If you do want to continue with the steps on your own, here they are:
Please note that they are written for Windows 10.
When you are done, you can delete .Zip file that is on your desktop. You can also hide the extensions and hidden folders. To do that, please repeat step 9(1) through 9(6). Then, remove the dot next to “Show hidden files and folders” and place a checkmark in the box for “Hide extensions for known file types.” After that, you can click APPLY and then OK.
I hope this information helps. Thanks again.
