MP495 New Port Cannot Be Created 0000

I i'm trying to install drivers on Windows 10 and when I get to the point of looking for the printer it finds it put then I get the Error message: New Port Cannot Be Created 0000

It's driving me crazy. HELP!!!!

The printer works fine because I have it set up on another laptop Windows 7.

The "New port could not be created" error is a system-based issue.  For help correcting this, create/log into a Canon Account and register your printer HERE, and then contact our support using the tools provided.  Our support can help walk you through the process of correcting this error; I'm unable to provide directions here on the forums.  Due to the age of the printer as a product, support may incur a fee.

It took me about 2 hours to figure this out as I refused to pay $20 to call support.  But, basically, follow the instructions in this other thread for another printer (but don't use the links in the thread because its the driver for the other printer...lol).

What I did was uninstall everything and then installed the main software only, then followed the instructions for the driver in the other thread (dowloading to desktop, changing file explorer setting, changing file extension, running the exe file in the LAN folder).  For me, that didn't solve the issue either, but I gave it one more try.   I uninstalled a 2nd time, then re-installed the software and the driver....it all magically worked.  I'm not tech inclined...so maybe I missed something on the 1st try, but perseverance won out.
