PIXMA IP8720 - cant access setting screen

Ive tried the instructions here (printing config page): https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART115379

The document is. WRONG - and doesnt work. Half the time NO DEFAULT PASSWORD is printed (empty field) else when it does provide one (consistently same when it does provide)  It doesnt take. For the USerID,  I can use ADMIN, admin, Admin - and administrator in all formats - and even no user ID. Each time it comes back invalid.

I tried the default password printed, no password and the serial number - nothing works - I am about to send the printer back.

I am on firmware 3.0.0

I need to set the default paper. I want it to be ledger, but it is letter - causes issues constantly when printing simple items not done through a printer page (such as Chrome, word, etc).

Access the printer from the IP not the canon software or Bonjoour name

ADMIN is the user name (all caps).

I suggest if on a protected home network you just set the ADMIN pwd as nothing (null)
