Headaches with Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-310 printer
I have a lot of questions about this machine but I will limit them to one or two per post. My first question is: If printing out of Photoshop or Affinity Photo, where both paper type and dimensions are set, should the printer panel also be set to the same type and size or do the driver settings on the computer override whatever is showing on the printer panel? I have tried both, printing small 3.5x5 test images (on Heavyweight Fine Art Paper setting via the top feed) and the two prints are identical with no head strikes or drag marks on either. So I don't know.
A huge frustration for me with this machine is that in the Canon driver offered for Windows there is granular control of every aspect of printing based on my reading of the PRO-310 manual while the Canon driver version for Mac eliminates a lot of user control. And no, I'm not using Airprint. The printer is connected via USB and the driver indicated in Printer Info is 29.5.0.0. Using the printer panel offers more control of paper thickness and unidirectional printing among other items, but this brings me back to the first question re which machine is really controlling what happens, the printer or the computer? If I enter specific settings (which aren't available in the driver interface) on the printer how do I keep the driver on the computer from overriding them?
The Canon manual does not address using the machine on a Mac at all only Windows. I bought it from Amazon who has agreed to accept it as a return despite the use and I'm giving that serious consideration.
Thanks for any comments.

I don't have that printer, but do have the Pro-100 on a MacBook Air using the Canon driver.
If you go to System Settings->Printers & Scanners and select your printer do you get a screen for printer options?
I have the same options on the Mac as I have on my W10 machine.
The is a Mac based manual.

Thanks for the reply, John, but no, my driver has none of those options. I'm attaching what I get when I click on utilities.

What happens is you click the up/down arrow at right side of the box that says media information?

Here what happens when the arrow you asked about is clicked and the second image is what follows that. Those are my custom settings. BTW, I didn't realize that there was a second version to the manual (Mac) so I now have that and will do a little reading tonight.
