G7020 FAX

joneseq
Contributor

My new G7020 can fax but out of the last 20 faxes I received 2 and was successul in sending 1. all the rest say NG, some that I receive are all bunched up black at the top of the page.

I've tried all the set up procedures, only use line as a fax, no phone connected. there is a dial tone and it rings but afterword spits out a message that it did not send.

suggestions? waited in hold over 20 minutes to support line

Hi joneseq.

To ensure that your sent faxes aren't being denied at the point of reception, ensure the phone number programmed into your G7020's fax information matches the phone line from which the printer is sending faxes.

From your description of the problem, it also seems like there may be an issue with the phone connection.  If you're connecting through a VoIP, try disabling the ECM TX and ECM RX, and lowering the TX Start Speed and RX Start Speed to 9600 BPS (both found after the ECM TX and RX settings).

If you need to test whether your fax is working, you may use the Canon Test Fax line 1-855-FX-CANON (1-855-392-2666).

nope, this didn't work, I am not using VoIP, it's a dedicated fax line. Tried the test fax and it said Line Busy, did turn down speeds to 9600. Received 1 fax today that I knew was coming and I had the machine in fax mode

does the phone number need the 1 before the area code?

Hi again joneseq.

Fax technology is based on older telephony standards, so I recommend adding the one in front of the number when sending outside of your area code or to toll-free lines.  The "Line busy" error may occur when the phone line times out during dialing (incomplete number).

Is the fax line through a Direct Ring Pattern number, or through a completely separate phone line?  If you are using Direct Ring Pattern, then the phone line is shared between your regular number and the fax number; only one such connection may be used at once.  If it's a dedicated fax line, try connecting a landline phone to the source of the fax line's phone service.  Does the line have a dial tone?

If the line has a dial tone, try manually dialing the Test Fax Line.  When it connects, hit the B&W Start button to your test sheet to the test line.  If it completes successfully, the Test Fax Line will send the fax back to you.  If it is unable to do so, verify that you have registered the fax number on the printer itself.

Thank you, that did not fix anything, I tried your test fax number, this time it says NG on result.

I added the 1 in front of my fax number just in case that mattered

Yes it has a dial tone

anything else? fax line and number worked fine with my last two printers, just not this one

it said NG when I tried it as shown below, about 8 minutes later I got the test fax back from Canon that it went through????????
